Christian Scientists have been serving as “religious workers” in Washington state institutions and care facilities for decades. That means they support residents of local jails, state prisons, mental institutions, juvenile homes and care facilities through a variety of activities, including:

meeting one-on-one with residents or inmates

conducting Sunday Christian Science services

conducting Sunday School classes

supporting branch church-sponsored lectures

The Christian Science Committee for Institutional Work in the State of Washington (CSCIW-WA) serves as a resource for churches and societies in establishing or renewing Christian Science institutional work in their area. Local Area Committees coordinate and support the efforts of local volunteers. Volunteering usually requires a brief training and orientation process with your local Area Committee and/or state facility.
